Chapter 7: Ponte en su lugar

While reading the beginning of this chapter I started to relate it with a book we are reading for another subject, it is called "Lord of the flies". This book shows a period in the life of a group of children far away from civilization and how they become savages without grown ups and also without rules or limits. It represents a small society because all the characters of the book have different personalities and should live together and try to survive as best as they could in a desolate island. I would consider it similar to our society, we are all different but we have to be in contact to each other all the time and everyday. In addition to that we have to manage to live as better as possoble. PONTE EN TU LUGAR in my opinion means that we are all human and must treat others with respect only because they are humans too. Also we obtain what we give,if we treat other rudely we will receive almost the same kind of treatment. I always think about putting in the other shoes and trying to understand other people's behaviour and thoughts and consider the other person as real as me.This chapter would be the most interesting for me up to now!

As a teacher, Romina, it's great you realize the importance of empathy in human relationships! It's worth highlighting, however, that we don't always "get what we give", at least, not in the givers' eyes!

We'll be discussing Lord of the Flies in class tomorrow, so I won't say much about your linking it here... In the meantime, do you find "tolerance of diversity" is a positive value in that story? Why would it (not) be so?

We'll be in touch!

According to Lord of the flies, I think that each character in the story is different and they only try to get together in order to be rescued. So "Tolerance of diversity" would be a positive value in the story but they only take it into account or put it into practice when they want to achieve their community aim.

If the characters only get together (accepting one another) when they're fighting for a common goal as basic as survival, Romina, I wouldn't say there's much room for being different in that community!

To what extent does this resemble the communities you belong to, I wonder?

LOL,
