Programme of study

EDUCATING RITA is a play about clash and culture. The play would be considered a "meeting" between two people.
On one hand, there is Rita, who belongs to a working class, adding that she doesn't know much about other cultures except her own and also she doesn't have enough systematic education. Her role in this meeting is teaching Frank her own knowledge about life in general.
On the other hand, there is Frank, who belongs to a middle class, he is a tutor so he knows about different subjects, especially literature. His role in this meeting is to promote educational values in his lessons.
All things considered, it would be said that they managed to learn from each other throughout the play, in spite of their differences.

I don't exactly understand what you mean by "roles in this meeting", Romina... Do you mean how they contribute to the other's education respectively?

To me, in this play Willy Russell is telling us to him the purpose of education is to "build bridges between cultures", fostering multiculturalism among teachers and learners alike... Would you agree with me? How much do you like this view of education yourself?

Eager to hear from you,
Gladys

Yes, I meant that in some way they teach each other without know it. They learn from the other person all the time.
Yes, I agree with you. As we saw this year: Education: is a process to acquire culture. Rita is trying to strenghen her own culture, but at the same time she is transmiting her positive values to Frank. That is one of the reasons why they contribute to the other person education.
See you,
Romina
