Act 2 scenes 4 and 5

"Crisis between Frank and Rita"
I think that Frank's feelings towards Rita have become stronger and stronger. He feels that Rita is more than his student, now she would be considered part of his life. She has strong influence on him and viceversa.
I have sympathy for Rita, mainly because she is so sincere and also she expresses her feelings naturally.
Regarding Rita's job, she would have given up it because she seems to be no interested on it any more.Adding that it can be another issue included in her own life's changes, also her desire to change her own name, in some way she would want to become another woman or have other identity. It can be added that Frank suggests her names including well- known people related to literature.
They have a discussion but I would think that they can not live without each other.

I believe Rita and Frank´s relationship as friends will continue, not because they cannot live without each other, but because they have many more things in common than what we thought they had at the begenning of the play.
I also have the feeling that Rita still has many things to offer Frank!
Would u agree?
Miriam

Yes, Miriam I agree with you. Maybe, but there is a kind of strong feeling between them. Apart from having things in common, there is something that is growing and growing in this relationship.
Let's wait till the end of the play!!

Hi Ro,
I think Frank is a bit dissapointed because Rita is no longer what she used to be.
Of course, he wants Rita to be happy and study and everything, but he doesn't want to change Rita.
What he likes about Rita is what makes her different.
=P

Yes, Pam ,both of them are totally different from each other. I think that these differences are what add spice to the relationship.
In my opinion, that is one of the reasons why they learn from each other all the time too.
See you!

I agree with miri in this, I believe the cannot live apart because they happen to have more things in common than those they thought they had when they first met. And I also think, as Pame does, that I like the old Rita more than the "new one." Now I get the impression that she seems to have become a bit pretentious and arrogant.

Lu

Hi Ro,

I agree on that they are different and that is what makes them stay together, they seem to complement each other. But at the same time, Lu and Mir are right in that that they have a lot in common.

xxx,

Pame

I was surprised by your point that Rita "now ... would be considered part of his (Frank's) life", Romina... I mean... aren't students normally "part of the teacher's life"?

Between you and me, I don't like this Rita pretty much... her attitudes seem quite frivolous to me, as if she had stopped doing what her "ancestors" and husband expected her to do just to do what her new "friends" expect her to do... :-( I think that's what Frank is hinting at when he mockingly suggests she could change her name after some well-known writers...

Do you see my point?
Big hug,
Gladys

Yes,sure students are always part of the teachers' lives because students and teachers most of the time share many things apart from the lesson time.
yes, maybe Rita has gone to an extreme when doing what her "new friends" expect her to do. I think that she is in a learning process again in her life..
